Product Description
Stable Laboratory Ozone Generation for Instrumentation, Testing, and Research
The UVP SOG-1 and SOG-2 Stable Ozone Generators are compact laboratory ozone sources designed to produce a controlled, continuous ozone stream for analytical instruments, ozone analyzer work, oxidant testing, materials aging studies, water-related research, and air pollution studies.
These generators use the photochemical reaction of oxygen exposed to shortwave 185 nm ultraviolet radiation to generate ozone. Each unit combines a stable UV light source, quartz reaction duct, radiation housing, and external power supply to support consistent ozone output when used with an appropriate dry air or oxygen supply at a controlled flow rate.

Note: Ozone production values are typical and depend on gas composition, flow rate, operating conditions, lamp exposure, and system configuration.
How the SOG Stable Ozone Generator Works
The SOG generator routes a controlled stream of dry air or oxygen through a quartz reaction duct where the gas is exposed to 185 nm ultraviolet radiation. Oxygen molecules are converted into ozone through a photochemical reaction. The amount of ozone produced can be adjusted by changing the gas flow rate, oxygen percentage, or UV exposure using the graduated shield.
For best stability, use a consistent gas supply, appropriate flow metering, ozone-compatible tubing, and the correct voltage power supply. The manufacturer recommends glass, PTFE, or similar ozone-compatible materials downstream of the reaction duct because some metals, natural rubber, and many plastics can react with ozone and reduce concentration.
Installation and Operating Notes
- Use with a suitable dry air or oxygen source at a controlled and uniform flow rate.
- PTFE tubing is recommended for connections to the quartz tube.
- Glass, PTFE, or similar ozone-compatible materials are recommended downstream of the reaction duct.
- A gas flow meter and differential pressure gauge are commonly used between the gas supply and the generator.
- Use only the correct voltage and frequency power supply for the selected model.
- Never disconnect the lamp from the power supply while the lamp is operating.
- A constant voltage transformer may improve stability where incoming line voltage is inconsistent.
Safety Notes
- Ozone is hazardous at elevated concentrations and should not be inhaled.
- Operate only in a properly controlled laboratory or instrument environment with suitable ventilation.
- The lamp emits shortwave UV radiation that can injure eyes and skin.
- Use appropriate protective eyewear, protective clothing, shielding, and engineering controls.
- Do not use this product for occupied-room deodorizing, indoor air cleaning, or general room decontamination.
- Follow the instruction manual and site safety procedures before installation or operation.

FAQs
What is the difference between the SOG-1 and SOG-2 ozone generators?
The SOG-1 is the lower-output model, providing approximately 0.8 ppm ozone at 0.5 L/min. The SOG-2 is the higher-output model, providing approximately 3.0 ppm ozone at 1.0 L/min. The appropriate choice depends on the required ozone concentration, flow rate, and system configuration.
How is ozone output adjusted?
Ozone output can be adjusted by changing the gas flow rate, changing the percentage of oxygen in the gas stream, or adjusting the graduated shield to change the amount of UV radiation reaching the gas in the quartz reaction duct.
Can the SOG-1 or SOG-2 be used for room deodorizing or indoor decontamination?
No. These products are intended as laboratory and instrumentation ozone sources. They should not be used for occupied-space deodorizing, indoor air cleaning, or general room decontamination.
What tubing should be used with ozone?
Use ozone-compatible materials. PTFE tubing is recommended for connections, and glass, PTFE, or similar materials are preferred downstream of the reaction duct because some metals, natural rubber, and many plastics can react with ozone.
What gas supply is required?
The generator should be connected to an appropriate source of dry air or oxygen with controlled, uniform flow. Flow rate, oxygen content, and operating conditions affect ozone output.
What warranty applies?
The Stable Ozone Generators are listed with a 90-day warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
Warranty and Support
Labgear can help confirm the correct SOG model, voltage configuration, replacement lamp, and compatible accessories for your application.
