Product Description
MRC Impeller No. 20
is a 70 mm (2.76 in.) perforated paddle stirrer that produces tangential flow for gentle liquid blending, fine-particle distribution, heat transfer, and other low-to-medium-viscosity mixing applications.
Applications
Gentle Liquid Blending
Produces broad tangential movement for combining miscible liquids, dilution, reagent preparation, pH adjustment, sample preparation, and routine formulation work where aggressive turbulence is unnecessary.
Fine-Particle Distribution
The paddle can help maintain the distribution of readily wetted powders, catalysts, light fillers, fine particles, and previously dispersed solids in low-to-medium-viscosity liquids.
Heat Transfer and Temperature Equalization
Tangential vessel circulation can move liquid past heated or cooled vessel walls, jackets, immersion heaters, cooling surfaces, and temperature probes to support more uniform batch temperatures.
Gentle Formulation Mixing
The low-to-moderate turbulence may suit surfactant-containing solutions, foaming formulations, shear-sensitive mixtures, finished emulsions, coatings, and cosmetic formulations that require uniformity without intensive dispersion.
Reaction and Process-Development Work
Suitable for small chemical-reaction batches, temperature-controlled laboratory processes, quality-control samples, comparative impeller trials, and other benchtop overhead-stirrer applications.
Features
- Paddle stirrer produces tangential flow around the stirring shaft.
- Broad rectangular plate provides direct batch displacement during low-and-medium-speed operation.
- Six circular openings allow liquid to pass through the blade rather than only around its perimeter.
- Flow through the openings creates localized jets and recirculation on both sides of the paddle.
- Low-to-moderate overall shear supports gentle blending and product handling.

FAQs
What type of impeller is the MRC Impeller No. 20?
It is a 70 mm (2.76 in.) perforated flat-paddle stirrer.
What does tangential flow mean?
Tangential flow moves the batch primarily around the stirring shaft in the direction of rotation. It provides broad circumferential movement with less direct upward or downward pumping than an axial-flow propeller.
What do the six holes in the paddle do?
The openings allow liquid to pass through the blade, reducing the fully solid projected area and creating localized jets and recirculation on both sides of the paddle.
Can this paddle create a surface vortex?
Yes. Centered operation at excessive speed in an unbaffled vessel may cause strong bulk rotation and vortexing. Lower speed, deeper immersion, off-center placement, shaft tilt, or vessel baffles may help reduce it.
Warranty
The MRC Impeller No. 20 is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service. For warranty assistance, replacement parts, product support, or application guidance, contact LabGear USA technical support. Warranty valid for 12 months.
