Product Description
MRC Milling Head No. 22
is a compact multi-disc pearl-mill agitator designed to drive grinding beads during small-batch wet milling, pigment dispersion, agglomerate breakup, particle-size refinement, and slurry processing. The milling head comes in two sizes, 25 and 40 mm (0.98 and 1.57 in).
Applications
Wet Pigment Dispersion
Designed for use with suitable grinding beads to disperse pigments and colorants in paints, inks, coatings, and laboratory formulation samples where finer processing is required than a conventional blending impeller can provide.
Agglomerate Breakup
The rotating multi-disc head transfers mechanical energy into the milling media, creating repeated bead-to-bead and bead-to-particle interactions that can break down soft agglomerates in a liquid millbase.
Fine-Particle Processing
Supports small-batch wet milling and particle refinement for ceramic slurries, mineral suspensions, battery-material formulations, pharmaceutical and cosmetic development, and other laboratory dispersions requiring controlled bead milling.
Slurry Homogenization
Continuous movement of the millbase and grinding beads through and around the perforated discs promotes repeated processing throughout the milling vessel and helps maintain a more uniform suspension during operation.
Laboratory Formulation Development
Suitable for screening pigments, media types, bead sizes, processing times, millbase volumes, and formulation conditions before scaling to larger bead-milling equipment.
Features
- Specialized milling-head design intended to operate with grinding beads in a compatible pearl-mill or bead-mill vessel.
- Multiple perforated discs transfer rotational energy into the bead-and-millbase mixture.
- Perforations allow slurry and appropriately sized media to move between disc levels.
- Disc edges and openings create repeated local velocity gradients and active bead-circulation zones.
- Compact geometry supports small-batch laboratory wet-milling applications.

FAQs
What type of milling head is the MRC Milling Head No. 22?
It is a specialized multi-disc pearl-mill milling head, also described as a perforated multi-disc bead-mill agitator. It is intended to energize grinding media during wet dispersion and fine-particle processing.
How does the pearl-mill milling head work?
The rotating discs transfer mechanical energy into grinding beads and liquid millbase. Repeated bead-to-bead and bead-to-particle interactions create impact, compression, shear, and attrition that disperse agglomerates and refine suspended particles.
What do the perforations in the discs do?
The openings allow millbase and appropriately sized media to exchange between disc levels, preventing each disc from acting as a complete barrier and creating additional active flow regions around the hole edges.
Warranty
The MRC Milling Head No. 22 is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service. For warranty assistance, replacement parts, product support, or application guidance, contact LabGear USA technical support. Warranty valid for 12 months.
